Blood donors
Why donate?
Up to 80 % of people need a blood transfusion or blood products during their lifetime, and blood and its components cannot be synthetically replaced. Donors are indispensable. Yet there is currently a shortage of 70.000 donors in the Czech Republic.
Our donor collection center is part of the Transfusion Department, whose main task is to provide safe transfusion products for patients not only at St. Anne’s University Hospital in Brno.
If you come to donate, you can help save up to four lives.
You can also register for donation by phone at +420 543 182 190 (between 6:15 and 9:30 AM).
Before you sign up, please review the general criteria for blood donation, temporary restrictions, and the current status of blood supplies.

Thank you for your help!

Blood plasma is the liquid component of blood, containing mainly proteins, minerals and enzymes. In addition to the function of a liquid environment for blood cells, it also performs a number of other tasks, for example, in the transfer of absorbed nutrients, stopping bleeding and ensuring immunity.
Plasma obtained from blood donations and plasmapheresis is used for clinical use for patients with bleeding symptoms, circulatory shock, liver failure, burns, or for the production of concentrates for stopping bleeding, immunoglobulins and vaccines.
Plasmapheresis is the collection of blood plasma carried out using special devices – separators, when blood plasma is separated from blood cells and they are transferred back to the donor’s bloodstream. The collected plasma can be used to treat patients or as an irreplaceable raw material in the pharmaceutical industry in the production of a wide range of drugs.
Our center is the recruitment center of the Czech National Bone Marrow Registry. This means that you can register with us by collecting a blood sample.
Who can register?
You can register with the bone marrow donor registry between 6:15–9:30 or between 11:00–13:00.
If you are also donating blood or blood plasma, please report your interest in registering to the registry worker.
Blood donation in the Czech Republic is unpaid, which means that donors do not receive financial compensation – they donate blood voluntarily and without any entitlement to remuneration. This approach is in line with the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO), according to which unpaid donation is the safest and most reliable form of blood collection.
When rewarding blood plasma donors, we follow the same principles as blood donors. Voluntary, unpaid donation increases the safety of our patients who receive plasma as part of their treatment.
However, donors still receive some benefits:
Thanks to the support of our partners, we can offer additional small benefits.

The sampling center is located on the first basement floor of building B1 on the premises of St. Anne’s University Hospital in Brno.
Free parking spaces are reserved for donors in front of building B1. Please inform the receptionist that you are there to donate blood or plasma. When leaving, you will need to show the confirmation issued upon request at the collection center.
Do you have a question for us? We will be happy to answer it. We also welcome any feedback.
