The 1st Clinic of Neurology

The 1st Clinic of Neurology is an excellent healthcare, educational, and research facility providing basic neurological and super-specialised care across the entire field of neurology within specialised centres: the Comprehensive Cerebrovascular Centre, the Centre for Patients with Multiple Sclerosis and Neuromyelitis Optica, the Centre for Parkinson’s Disease and Abnormal Movements, the Centre for Cognitive Disorders, the Comprehensive Centre for the Treatment of Spasticity, the Centre for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Headaches, and the specialised Centre for Epilepsy Brno.

The clinic has four inpatient departments (Department of General Neurology, Department of Epileptology with a video-EEG monitoring unit, ICU Department dedicated mainly to patients with stroke, and Department of Intermediate Neurological Care) with a total of 63 beds, an extensive outpatient department with three acute and a larger number of specialised outpatient clinics, a day care centre, and several specialised neurophysiological laboratories (EEG, EMG, evoked potentials, TMS, rTMS, ultrasound laboratory).

The 1st Clinic of Neurology provides undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in neurology for the Faculty of Medicine at Masaryk University, is involved in the teaching of dentists, physiotherapists, nurses, and optometrists, and is a base for cutting-edge international scientific research programs. The clinic also serves as a training centre for nurses from the Secondary Medical School and Higher Vocational School of Health Care in Brno and for caregivers from the Secondary School in Tišnov. At the same time, it is a place where an accredited course for hospital attendants at FNUSA is provided.
