The Oncology and Surgery Department

The Oncology and Surgery Department focuses on clinical oncology, with a preference for treating tumours of the digestive tract and urological malignancies, including patient follow-up care. The department actively cooperates with the 1st Department of Internal Medicine and Urology and other urological departments within the South Moravian Region. Integrated cooperation takes place within multidisciplinary indication committees. In cooperation with the Department of Health, Social, Home, and Palliative Car it provides care to patients with advanced and incurable cancer, and together with the Department of Paediatric Oncology of the Faculty of Medicine at Masaryk University and University Hospital Brno, it operates an oncology outpatient clinic providing highly specialised preventive and therapeutic care to patients who were treated for cancer during childhood.

The department consists of two clinical oncology clinics, a chemotherapy unit, and an inpatient ward with 18 beds. As part of their specialisation programmes, students from medical schools, higher vocational schools, and medical faculties complete their professional training at the department. As part of lifelong learning, the department provides professional internships for the National Centre for Nursing and Non-Medical Health Professions in Brno in the specialised educational program Nursing Care in Internal Medicine. As part of the specialised training of doctors, internships were held prior to preparation for oncology and urology certification.
