The 1st Clinic of Orthopaedics
The main focus of the 1st Clinic of Orthopaedics is comprehensive therapy of bone, joint, and soft tissue sarcomas with an emphasis on a multidisciplinary approach. As part of the Musculoskeletal Tumour Committee, the clinic cooperates with oncology departments at University Hospital Brno and the Masaryk Memorial Cancer Institute in Brno. The main focus is on oncological orthopaedics, endoprosthetics, osteology, arthroscopy, and rheumatic surgery, and the catchment area covers the entire Moravia, eastern and southern Bohemia. The clinic has become the leading centre for musculoskeletal oncology in the eastern part of the Czech Republic. In the field of oncological orthopaedics, it focuses on the use of new types of implants to treat extensive bone defects.
Currently, the clinic performs implants a wide range of cemented, hybrid, and cementless total replacements of large joints. The clinic continues to perform comprehensive diagnostic and curative arthroscopic surgeries on small and large joints, including navigation systems and research related to biological implants. In its endoprosthetic programme, the clinic has long maintained a leading position among centres in the Czech Republic in the total number of hip and knee joint replacements.
