The clinical speech therapy department

The clinical speech therapy department provides speech therapy intervention to patients in FNUSA clinics and departments, with the exception of the 1st Clinic of Neurology and DRO. The most common cases involve patients with swallowing disorders, speech disorders, phatic functions, or cognitive communication disorders. The department provides diagnostics and therapy during hospitalisation, while also providing follow-up outpatient care to some patients. It provides outpatient intervention to clients of all age groups. In childhood, speech therapists most often focus on the intervention of developmental speech and language disorders, myofunctional disorders, but also difficulties in the area of food processing.

A specialised speech therapist is part of an interdisciplinary team dealing with intervention in people with congenital developmental defects – clefts in the orofacial area. The activity takes place through the Centre for the Treatment of Congenital Developmental Defects under the Comprehensive Implantation Centre for the Hearing Impaired. The clinical speech therapist also participates in the selection of candidates for cochlear implantation at the Comprehensive Implantation Centre for the Hearing Impaired in Brno and provides follow-up auditory rehabilitation.
